yellow

the flutter of a butterfly’s wings
the scratch of a quill on parchment
a sparkle on the crown of kings
feeling content

a cat sitting on your lap
hot tea in your hand
waking up from a short nap
discovering something grand

the scent of freshly baked bread
the sound of children’s laughter
a hug from an old friend
a ‘happily ever after’

green

the smell of fresh-cut grass
leaves rustling in the breeze
smooth, cool, blown glass
the tickle before a sneeze

sunshine on a meadow
laughing with new friends
dewdrops on a petal
adjusting focus on a lens

the sharp scent of spearmint
an inchworm on a leaf
running a quick sprint
a cold rush of relief

i wonder why

I wonder why the sky is blue, why can't it be lilac, fuchsia, and maroon too? For I would like to see the birds so high flying across a violet sky To see bright green thunderstorms crackle over swaying fields of corn And sight the sunsets, crimson and teal with silver clouds as bright as steel And when the day has faded away I want to see pink stars come out to play with shimmering lime green meteorites and navy comets- what a sight! I wonder why the sky is blue, when it could be a rainbow, too.

jrr tolkien- motto

J.R.R. Tolkien has many inspirational quotes from the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and his various other works. However, one of my (many) favorites is from The Two Towers, where Sam is trying to convince Frodo to keep going. He reminds Frodo of the stories they heard when they were young hobbits, in the peaceful Shire. "It's like the great stories, Mr. Frodo," Sam tells him. "The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end... because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's just a passing thing.. this shadow." The stories that Sam is telling Frodo about are so similar to their own story- and Frodo and Sam are able to continue on to Mordor, to save their world, and their Shire, and their stories. I love this quote because it applies to our lives as well. No matter how bad it is right now, things will get better, and the sun will shine again.
